One of my favorite things to do with essential oils is to use them to make roller bottles of my favorite scents. These are great for a lot of reasons! First, roller bottles are a really convenient way to apply your oils- it dilutes the oil, making it ready to use right away so you don’t have to mess with diluting them for each application. Second, they are great to use on kids – you don’t have to worry about the essential oil being too strong, because it’s already diluted. They also make your bottle of essential oil last longer, which makes them a lot more cost effective. You can customize them to create your own blends, and it’s easy – even your kids can help!

Be sure you’re using a high quality essential oil when applying directly to your skin. I use Young Living Essential Oils for a lot of reasons, but mostly because of their Seed to Seal Guarantee. When I buy a bottle of lemon oil, that’s what I get –  lemon oil – not a bunch of synthetic fillers. It’s good to know what you’re putting on & in your body.

Essential oils are really beneficial to your body, but if you’re new to oils, knowing how to use them can be overwhelming. Essential oils can be used in a lot of different ways – they can be ingested, used topically, or through inhalation. (I also use essential oils in my favorite homemade lavender hand lotion recipe!)

It takes a while to learn how to apply them safely, which ones are safe to ingest & what benefits different oils have for diffusing.

When in doubt, a few drops in the diffuser in place of spray or plug-in air fresheners, or some on the bottoms of your feet are a couple ways you can use them safely. You can even transform your medicine cabinet with essential oils. Start small, & use them more as your comfort level & knowledge of oils grow.

The best advice I got when I first started using essential oils was to just use them! A drop of Young Living’s Vitality lemon essential oil is awesome in a glass of ice water, a few drops in the diffuser is great for cleaning the air, & Thieves on the bottoms of your feet is the perfect boost for your immune system.

Essential oils have been around for thousands of years, but we’re just starting to rediscover them & ways they can improve the way our bodies work.

Must Try Roller Bottle Blends

#1. Thieves Roller Blend – The roller bottle we use the most of at our house is Thieves. This oil is amazing! Thieves is a blend of clove, cinnamon, rosemary & lemon oils, & it packs a punch! It is the perfect oil for supporting your immune system, especially during cold & flu season. Every morning & evening (and more often, if needed!) my boys get the roller bottle of Thieves out & roll it on the bottoms of their feet – this is a great place to apply your oils, especially on kids! Neither of my boys have missed 1 day of school due to illness in the last 2 years. I’m not a doctor, but I’m sure it’s because Thieves gives their immune systems the support it needs to keep them as healthy as possible.

What you need-

1 10 ml roller bottle

12-15 drops Thieves essential oil

Carrier oil of your choice (I use Young Living’s V6 carrier oil. You could also use fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil, etc.)

Remove the roller top from your roller bottle. Add 12-15 drops of Thieves essential oil & top with carrier oil. Replace roller top & tighten down the lid to make sure it’s secure. Use 2-3 times per day to support your immune system.

#2 Lavender & Vetiver Roller Blend – Another favorite roller blend is lavender & vetiver. Both lavender & vetiver are known for their calming properties, so this is the perfect combination to apply at bedtime. If you don’t have a bottle of vetiver,  just use lavender on its own & it will still do the trick. (Lavender is referred to as the “Swiss army knife” of essential oils because it is helpful for so many things- it’s one we always have on hand!)

What you need:

1 10 ml roller bottle

7 drops Lavender oil

7 drops Vetiver oil

Carrier oil (fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, etc.)

Remove the roller top from your roller bottle. Add lavender & vetiver essential oil, then top with carrier oil. Replace roller top & tighten down the lid to make sure it’s secure. Apply to bottoms of feet & back of neck at bedtime for a good night’s sleep.

#3 PanAway Roller Blend  – PanAway Roller Blend is another great oil for a roller bottle! PanAway is a blend of several oils, including wintergreen & peppermint. It’s soothing & stimulating, & perfect to apply to tired muscles or to the back of your neck. PanAway is also a great oil to use for a foot massage.

What you need:

1 – 10 ml roller bottle

15 drops PanAway essential oil

Carrier oil of your choice

Remove the roller top from your roller bottle. Add 15 drops PanAway essential oil, then top with carrier oil. Replace roller top & tighten down the lid to make sure it’s secure. Apply to tired muscles or on the back of your neck throughout the day.

#4 Lavender/Peppermint/Lemon Roller Blend – One of my favorite oil trios is lavender, peppermint & lemon essential oils. When I first heard of using these 3 oils together I thought it sounded like a strange blend…until I found they are spot on for supporting your sinuses, especially in the spring! Now I use all 3 every morning (and sometimes again in the afternoon, depending on the time of year) & notice a huge difference!

What you need:

1 – 10 ml roller bottle

6 drops lavender essential oil

4 drops peppermint essential oil

5 drops lemon essential oil

Carrier oil of your choice

Remove the roller top from your roller bottle. Add 5 drops of each essential oil, then top with carrier oil. Replace roller top & tighten down lid to make sure it’s secure. Apply to the bottoms of your feet, back of your neck, or over your sinuses 1-2 times per day as needed. This trio (minus the carrier oil!) is also great to diffuse!

If you want a stronger blend for any of your roller bottles, just add a few extra drops of essential oil to your carrier oil. A good rule of thumb to follow is to add at least 15 drops of essential oil to a 10 ml roller bottle of carrier oil. Add a few less drops of essential oil if you’re going to use it on young kids.
